Arthur Conan Doyle

His life



1859 - Conan Doyle was born on Mei 22nd 1859 in Edinburgh , Scotland. He has five brothers and sisters. His family doesn't have much money.


1870 - In school he likes telling stories. Sometimes his friends want him to tell them a story. They give food for the stories.


1877 - His father wants him to study medicine. He studies at the University of Edinburgh with Dr Joseph Bell. Dr Bell is a good surgeon. He likes to guess the details about his patient.


1882 - He is a doctor in England. He doesn't to have a lot patients. He writes stories in his free time.


1887 - He likes writting detective stories. He creates the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. His first detective story is A Study in Scarlet. It is printed in 1887.


1917 - He writes 68 stories about Sherlock Holmes. His best stories are The Sign of Four (1890) , The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes (1892) , The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902) , and His Last Bow (1917).


1902 - He is famous all over the world; even Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert likes his stories. She makes him a knight in 1902 and he becomes Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.


1930 - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle dies in Crowborough , Sussex , England , on July 7th.
